Dijon, the capital of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region
Dijon, the capital of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, is a pleasant and welcoming city. It is part of Dijon Métropole, which has nearly 260,000 inhabitants and is the only urban area in the Grand Est region of France, alongside Strasbourg, to be gaining population.
This demographic growth is the result of a proactive policy that has enabled ambitious projects to be carried out simultaneously: over one billion euros invested in the regional economy over the past 15 years to equip the metropolis with major infrastructure; the construction of hundreds of new homes each year; and the allocation of 400 hectares for business development.
This strategy of controlled development has paid off. Since January 1, 2016, Dijon has been one of the 13 regional capitals of France for Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
Located between the Burgundy vineyard slopes (from Dijon to Beaune) to the west, the Saône plain to the east, and the Langres plateau to the north, Dijon is crossed by two rivers: the Ouche and the Suzon (the latter is canalized underground in the urban area), as well as the Burgundy Canal, which connects the Saône and the Yonne rivers.
